FORMED SHEET METAL

Sheet metal covers that account for the assembly.

A cover has to fit around something. Show the mating surfaces, clearances, fastening features, and finished appearance so Nova can review the part in the context of where it will be used.

WHAT TO BRING FOR REVIEW

Common requests in this part family.

These examples describe possible scope. Your drawing and requirements determine the manufacturing review.

01

Equipment covers

Formed covers fitted over or around equipment components. Identify the overall envelope, fastening method, and the clearances needed inside the cover.

02

Access covers

Removable covers for an opening or service area. Show the mating opening, attachment pattern, and any flange, overlap, or edge requirements.

03

Formed housings

Sheet metal shapes with multiple faces and attachment features. Include how the faces relate to one another and identify any separate hardware or assembly operations.

DRAWING REQUIREMENTS

Make the important relationships clear.

Include the current part number and revision, drawing units, and the details below. See the full drawing checklist for file preparation.

  1. 01

    Envelope and mating geometry

Define inside and outside dimensions clearly. Show the parts or opening the cover mates to, and identify the dimensions that control clearance and fit.

  2. 02

    Bends, corners, and edges

Specify bend direction, angles, and any required radii. Identify corner treatment, seams, hems, and edge requirements rather than leaving them implicit in the model.

  3. 03

    Fastening and access

Dimension mounting holes, slots, and hardware locations. Include any functional requirements for removal, service access, or alignment with the surrounding assembly.

  4. 04

    Finish and functional requirements

Identify visible faces, coating or finish specifications, and masking. State any sealing, environmental, electrical, or other performance requirements explicitly for review; a cover shape alone does not establish a rating.

Material, quantity, and manufacturing route are reviewed together.

Nova reviews the cover’s geometry, material and thickness, tooling access, finish, and quantity before confirming the route and quote. Send the quantity for the next run and any expected repeat work. Material availability, production timing, and any additional assembly or partner operations are confirmed during review.

PROTOTYPE TO REPEAT PRODUCTION

Keep the drawing and the next run connected.

The quotation is reviewed for the quantity and requirements you submit.

  1. 01

    Define the first run.

Submit the current drawing, quantity, and requirements. If the part is a prototype or first article, say what you need to evaluate or document.

  2. 02

    Review the complete quote.

Nova reviews manufacturability, setup, handling, applicable partner processes, and timing. Use your private link to review the quotation before accepting it.

  3. 03

    Request the next quantity.

Confirm the same specifications and drawing revision, then request a fresh quote with the new quantity and date. Share expected repeat demand to help plan future work.

BEFORE YOU SUBMIT

Questions about the request.

Should I include the mating part?

A reference view or drawing of the mating geometry can help explain fit and clearance. Clearly distinguish reference information from the drawing and revision that define the part you want quoted.

What if the cover needs welded corners or installed hardware?

Specify the welds and hardware in the drawing and requirements. For multiple components, include a bill of materials and assembly drawing and use the assembly review request so the complete scope can be assessed.

Can I specify a protective or environmental rating?

State the exact requirement and any applicable verification or documentation needs. Nova must review that requirement before quoting; neither the submitted shape nor a general description of a cover establishes a performance rating.

Can I move from a prototype to repeat production?

Use the prototype to establish the drawing revision and requirements you want manufactured. Tell Nova the production quantity and expected cadence when you request the next quote. Any drawing change needs to be identified and reviewed.

YOUR NEXT STEP

Ready to share the drawing?

Submit the current revision and requirements. Pricing, material availability, and production timing are confirmed after review.
